William Rutter Motor Services was established in 1985 in Brunel Road, Bedford. Bill started as a ‘one man band and soon after was joined by Ian Jones. We expanded into our current premises in Hammond Road in 1988. We’ve been servicing vehicles in Bedford since before many of our younger customers were born.

Bill started as a Ford-trained technician and over the years has gained huge experience and knowledge of most makes of cars.

Wm Rutters also went on to become an MOT test station in 1992. We have built up the business mostly by recommendation; we are very busy much of the time and you must book to be sure of an appointment. Our MOT Tester is Peter Taylor, a real stickler, and he will not allow you to leave with an unsafe vehicle, as it should be.

Alongside Bill, we have two more technicians: Daniel Bean & Fabio Silvestre. Daniel joined us as an apprentice in 2001 and is now way beyond fully qualified; and both he and Fabio, our senior technician, are valued and crucial members of our team.

Daniel, Fabio and Bill all undertake diagnostic work and have trained in Snap-on Diagnostics.

The business became a ‘family affair’ when Bill’s sister Helen Durrant joined the company part-time in 1999 and then full-time in 2001. Helen runs the office with our two other members of office staff, Sharon Jones and Tracey Sciales.
